What Is Causing Those Black Lines?

So your first question is probably, What are these lines? More than likely the lines forming around your furniture are form candles. That's right candles. When you burn candles they produce smoke. This smoke does not just stay in the air, it eventually settles on your carpet. When it settles around your furniture it leaves a black line. The line is worse if you use heavily scented and thus oily candles or cheap candles. Cheap candles are more likely to contain impurities in the wicks which will produce more smoke. So now that you know the source of the lines what can you do about them. Unfortunately these lines can be difficult to remove since they are basically smoke damage. You will need to have a professional clean them. Do not attempt to clean them yourself our you risk setting them and creating permanent stains. What you can do is prevent these marks from getting worse and keep from making new ones. To do this try to limit the amount of candles that you burn. If you must burn them be sure to cut your wicks down to reduce the amount of smoke produces. Also buy quality candles and avoid the cheap ones from the dollar store.
