Sea Shells
What is the best way to clean sea shells?
I have a lot bigger than I think is mostly clam shells, but I'm not sure how clean, protect and carry out all of its color. I read that I soak in a bleach water solution for a day or so, then rub with mineral oil. Is that correct? Also, I have some silicone spray that I think could be useful for sealing them. What would be the best method to use for this? Besides, what would be the best way to glue the pieces back together? Crazy glue would be OK, or should I look for somethign else? The pieces I work largely consists of beautiful purple from inside the shell, so any special precautions taken with them? One last thing, what would be the best way to make a hole thropugh them? It would be a normal electric drill to be good, or something more specialized need? I know this is a lot questions, but thanks for any help you can give me.
Sea shells really do not need to be protected because they are evolved to withstand climatic conditions. I clean with a soft brush nail or Brisha, ans use dry sealant to keep looking shiny wet. Use a Dremel tool with a bit of pottery, and that the tape place on the drill does not slip. I just use the pieces as is. Obviously always be repaired ..
